Fat Tuesday and a challenge...

Happy Fat Tuesday everyone!

Everyone knows Mardi Gras means beads and lots of drinking.

The actual reason for Mardi Gras is that it marks the last day before Lent. Now - I'm not Catholic or anything, but I grew up with the tradition of giving something up for Lent. I started trying to eat healthier this year along with some friends - so we can all support each other. I think Lent is a perfect way to try to do one more thing for my health and personal weight loss goals.

I don't really talk about my weight loss plans with anyone normally - but what better way to help me try to stick to my plans than announcing it online?

I joined Weight Watchers in January and so far I've lost 15.8 pounds. I'm very excited with my weight loss so far - but I definitely still have some very bad habits. One of them is my Diet Crack, I mean Diet Coke habit. I'm a Diet Coke fiend! I must have one every day. Just the thought of trying to give up my Diet Coke makes me twitch.

I am going to attempt to give up Diet Coke for Lent.

Who thinks I can do it? I challenge myself to go 40 days with no Diet Cokey goodness.

Who's with me? I will personally send everyone that does this "No Diet Coke for Lent Challenge" with me (and succesfully completes it) a prize. Seriously!

Everyone!

Repeat after me, "I will drink water - lots and lots of water"

Sign up in the comments if you want to kick the Diet Coke habit with me - I'll need all the support I can get!!!

Now I'm going home to drink all the Diet Coke in the house - so I'm not tempted! (just kidding!)

Congrats on the weight loss! That's really fantastic!! I'm going to be joining WW as soon as the baby comes out and I'm healed enough.

Good luck with the diet coke challenge! I would try, but with having to give up sugar, juice, too much milk, and gatorade, and any real activity, my only vice left is diet cherry pepsi. I think I'd lose my mind without it! But I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines!

You're a better woman than me - I just can't give it up. Congrats on the weight loss!

Congrats on the weight loss! With the diet coke thing, once you pass the first 48 hours, it's not as hard. It takes about that long for the caffeine withdrawl to pass. Expect some headaches for a couple days.

I seem to associate a different type of drinking on Fat Tuesday :-)

I already drink water and not diet, and look how often I have to stop at restrooms. You might want to reconsider :-)

I've been slowly giving up diet coke since December - and now's the time to go cold turkey.

I drink water except when we're out already - ulp - but I'll be trying to give up the diet coke even when eating out now.

You can do it!!! It was really hard but I have had only water and tea to drink since August...(granted I'm in the bathroom a lot more!) Your body will thank you for it! Congrats on the loss! That is great!

I saw you comment on Bea's blog and I just wanted to check it out. I wish you luck. It's not an easy habit to break but It's possible. I haven't decided yet what I want to give up...I'm thinking coffee because I drink more coffee than water but I'm not sure I'd be very pleasant for a while. :)

Fifteen pounds?! That's fantastic!! Way to go.

I was a diet coke fiend in college and gradually weaned myself off of it when I started working. Now I keep a huge mug at my desk, and alternate through the day filling it with decaf hot tea and cold water.

Also, I really like the little crystal light on-the-go packs that you can flavor a bottle of water with. You can get them with electrolytes or vitamins. They are yummy.

Good luck kicking the Diet Coke!

Well, you know I quit soda on Friday, so I suppose I'm in, too!

Go girl!

(and if you drank it all does that make Fat Tuesday Wired Tuesday instead??)

Yay Jody! I am so proud of your progress so far. Keep it up!
R makes me give up coke each lent. I haven't do it in a while but for you I will. I don't do diet coke so mine will be no coke lent challenge!
P.S. If you take on coke again after lent ends it tastes funny.

Hey there! I read your post on Tuesday and it must have really resonated with me because I've been thinking about it a lot.

I joined WW in December and have lost just 5 pounds. I haven't really been giving it my all... why I don't know... I guess I've been in a cynical mood. Yes, that doesn't make much sense.

I don't have Diet Coke to give up, but I sure need to get on track with WW.

My family and I sat down last night and talked about Lent. As a family we've decided to stop complaining for Lent. This is going to be a HUGE challenge for us, because we've all been very gripey lately. But we're going to work on it.

Anyway, I don't have Diet Coke to give up, but I was inspired by your weight loss. I'm doing WW online so I don't really talk much to others about it. I hope to lose 75 lbs this year! Then I'll be at my goal weight.

... I've babbled long enough. Good luck with your Diet Coke challenge! You've done so well with your weight loss, you can do this!

Congrats on the 15 pounds and bravo for spearheading the challenge. I'd join you, but I'd be cheating b/c I don't drink Diet Coke.

I need to give up chocolate.

Diet Coke is 0 points. just sayin'.

COngrats on 15 pounds! I started WW 11 days ago. I'm doing well! I'm even running!

You go girl! I'm doing something a bit similar....I gave up candy (except for small amounts of solid dark chocolate - good for the heart and full of anti-oxidants). I brought all my candy into work to give away so I wouldn't be tempted. (My fellow engineers are little piggies....it was gone within an hour!!!)
